Richard Smith: A Short Story

Great Essays
“Amazing. Champion. Legend. All these words describe the world renown quarterback Tom Brady. The world looks to him as an inspirational leader, and the day he disappeared everyone was shocked and sad,” read Mr. Bozenau’s boss from Tom Brady’s file. “Winston, I’ve decided it’s about time that you do something, so this case is yours. Make sure to go through every piece of evidence and don’t forget anything.”
Winston could hardly contain himself. It was his very first case since being hired over a year ago! He pictured himself being surrounded by all of his friends, family, and everyone else in the world as they celebrated his accomplishment of finding Tom Brady. There would be party after party, one shiny award after another.

“Fits my mood,” Winston angrily spat as he drank his morning coffee. The interviews of the night before were worthless, and none of them even turned up one valid piece of evidence. But one thing he found odd was the fact that Falcons coach Dan Quinn would allow any of his staff, especially his defensive coordinator Richard Smith, to take a break this close to the biggest game of the year. So in order to find out more, he concluded that he would have to find Richard Smith himself. This was no easy task, but his best shot was to start at Richard’s house in the heart of Manhattan, one of the world’s busiest cities. So once again he booked flights all the way back to the other side of the country, in hopes of finally solving his first case.
Standing on Mr. Smith’s doorstep was a little more nerve racking than Winston expected, because he didn’t know if this would actually be the end of his first assignment or if he was just getting started into a mess. After knocking multiple times he stepped back, waiting for the door to be answered. He heard shuffling behind the door, Is this it?, he thought. Suddenly the door was wide open and there was Richard Smith, possibly the final link in the chain to solving this mystery.
“Hello Mr. Smith, I’m with the FBI, may I step in and ask you a few questions?”
“Actually I’m busy at the moment,” he said with just a hint of

FBI director James Comey confirmed Friday that his agency was treating the shooting spree in San Bernardino as a "federal terrorist investigation" but said there is no indication the killers were part of a cell or network or were directed by a terrorist group. Charles Katz was convicted in the Southern California District Court that charged him with wagering gambling information. The Appellate Court rejected the defendants’ disagreement because they concluded that Katzs’ Fourth Amendment right was not infringed upon because FBI agents never actually entered the telephone booth. Facts: Mr. Katz was seen placing calls between three different telephone booths on a daily basis which lead the FBI to place microphones on the outer roof of two of the three telephone booths. One of the telephone booths was out of order. This allowed the agents to intercept and record the phone calls he made regarding gambling information.…

I am ever so grateful to be promotion to an important investigative position for the FBI, however I must admit I am quite horrified at my first case. President Nixon killed by a reel of recording tape… talk about irony. This is not a time to joke around which is why I’ve been busy investigating several suspects to the murder of Richard Nixon and I am happy to say I have found quite some convincing ones. As you know, there were quite a few clues found in a White House trashcan that was very incriminating for a few suspects. Cassidy Bulger In the novel, 1984, by George Orwell, there is a significant change in the tone between Part 1 and Part 2. As protagonist Winston Smith learns more about Big Brother and how he can join a rebellion against it, the tone of the novel begins to become more positive. In Part 1, the tone could be considered miserable, bleak, and hopeless. But as the audience reads into Part 2, there is a shift; and the novel begins to gain a rebellious, strong, and hopeful tone. The shifts in the tone of the novel between Parts 1 and 2 reflect upon the seemingly increasing probability for Winston to assist in eliminating the totalitarian Party rule over Oceania.…
