In the essay “Family Values,” Richard Rodriguez, discuses a few good and very passionate perspective about family values. In this article, Richard Rodriguez focuses on the arguable thesis that homosexuality, rather than being a threat to the family values is actually a pillar against them. He describes himself as a middle-aged homosexual man outside his parents, and he was about to come in and explain to his parents that he is indeed gay. The author moves on to explain that the idea of ‘Family Values’ differs for people of different cultures and region. Family values means, how well the family member knows each other, how they respect an individual and how strong they maintain their relationship. It is a thing that you cannot live without. Moreover, each and every person has their own duties which they follow kindly to support their family. We can see in the US, lots of immigrants come from different countries in order to make money so they can support their family. Further, He explains that the American idea of ‘family value’ is one in which the children leave home, live on their own and learn ways to make themselves distinguishing different who their parents are. So a couple can adopt them to maintain a culture. My personal view is not to suffer after the marriage with acceptance by pressure. With an open mindset has to face all the circumstances which is would be an end for the essay. The points he made about the detachments in American family are true, but it is not acceptable to compare with the family society of other cultures and society. I believe that in some aspects American family system is progressive. Its faults are more emphasized because the open nature of the society. The author both praises and criticizes the way of Asian version of family values. Their families are tightly knit it is so true at the same time they disgrace their own daughter or son if they turned to be gay. They do not address the real problems. Women there don’t have much freedom. Overall, I am trying to say is that every culture and society has a different perspective on ‘Family Values’. It’s so wrong of us to compare the ‘Family Values’ of different societies since they have different type of upbringing and different
