“Big deal. Death always comes with the territory...” (“Richard Ramirez”). These were the words of serial killer Richard Ramirez moments after he was convicted of killing thirteen people (“Richard Ramirez”). Richard Ramirez was a troubled child who lived with his parents and four siblings. His father was often violent and abusive, causing Ramirez to frequently run away from home. Due to distance between Ramirez and his family, he became close with his cousin, Mike. Mike was a soldier for the United States Army and was responsible for introducing the young boy to a life of crime (Philbin 154). Ramirez was only fifteen when he dropped out of high school and later left home when he was eighteen. He moved to Los Angeles and lived with his older brother, but often …show more content…
Recently, Ramirez has been known to have received more mail than any other inmates. Shelly shared that it was not a bombshell to her that many women had a disturbing fascination with Ramirez (Pelisek).
Shelly Ramirez revealed that she felt relieved when she heard of her uncle’s passing and she was sorry for his victim’s families. At the time that Ramirez passed, his body had not been claimed. A spokesperson for San Quentin Prison revealed that if no one claimed the killer’s body, then the state would have him cremated and dispose of the remains. When Shelly was informed about the future of her uncle’s body, she claimed that it was what he would have wanted (Pelisek).
After twenty three years in prison on death row, Ramirez passed away on June 7, 2013. He was fifty-three years of age and suffered complications linked to B-cell Lymphoma. Correction officers at San Quentin Prison revealed that Ramirez’s passing happened a short time after he was transported to Greenbrae, California and admitted into Marin General Hospital (“Richard
