Martel Developed the idea that forming a relationship with one can contribute to one's survival and happiness. Pi composed a relation with Richard Parker that involved; trust, adjustment, and happiness. Throughout the book, Pi referred that Richard Parker was the key to his survival as he states “without Richard Parker. I wouldn't be alive today to tell you my story” (Martel.
