Richard Milhous Nixon was born on January 9, 1913 to Francis Anthony Nixon and Hannah Milhous Nixon in Yorba Linda, California and at an early age was marked by hardship and difficulties. Nixon was the second of five brothers, Harold, Donald, Arthur and Edward with two of them dying before he was 21. With the failure of the family ranch in 1922, the family moved to Whittier, California, where his father opened a grocery store and the home of his mother’s relatives.
