Richard Lewis Theory: The Lewis Model Of World Culture

My view on Lewis model
British linguist Richard Lewis can speak ten languages. After he traveled around the world, he thought he can express world culture by a chart. That is the famous Lewis Model.
Lewis divides all countries into three groups.
The first type is Linear-actives. Linear-actives type has these features. The worker use half time to talk and do one thing at a time. They will make a plan before work and work step by step. And they are not only polite to colleagues, but they are direct. Work must come first. The result is heavy. They pay attention to hand writing and stick to the schedule. But they won’t use too much body language in the communication. Representative countries include Luxembourg and Switzerland.
The second type

There are so many countries in the world. Every country has different area and nation. It is hard to say everything by a chart. In my opinion, I think there are limits in this chart. For example, China belongs to the third type which is Reactive-actives. I compare China to other countries. I find that China also has some features from other types. China values relationships very much. Harmony between people is about your future. It is like the second type. In addition to this, people also pay more attention to the urgency of the matter. If leader suddenly visit, you need to entertain your leader rather than continue to …show more content…
Taiwan and Hong Kong should not be separated from China. Taiwan and Hong Kong have been China’s inherent territory since ancient times, which is a fact nobody can change. In my opinion, the author might be want to describe the difference between the company in mainland China and the company in Taiwan or Hong Kong. In 30 years ago, the market economy was not active in China indeed. At that time, Taiwan and Hong Kong all developed economy faster than mainland China. But the mainland China is developing quickly now. More and more enterprises go abroad and become transnational corporation. Our enterprises can compete with transnational enterprises in other countries. Many standards are also in line with international standards. So I think Taiwan and Hong Kong should not be separated from China in this chart.
But it also has many advantages. I think Richard Lewis’s world culture model has some help for young people ready to work for multinationals. There are people from different countries in multinational corporations, who have formed their own psychological processes in their life and countries. You must have friction and collision when you are working for a multinational company. The problem that workers need to solve is how to reduce these collisions and frictions. It is important to learn about the culture of different

There is but one china, and Taiwan is a part of China.” This statement, otherwise known as the One China Policy is absolutely correct. Today, China is a country divided into two separate governments; Taiwan which is governed by the Republic of China, and the mainland which is governed by The Peoples Republic of China (cfr.org, Michal Roberge and Youkyoung Lee). Here lies the problem; each government claims that they are the true China! To fully understand this highly controversial dilemma, one must understand the complicated history behind this problem.…

When the article talks about the comment that China and their trade and how they are making more than the U.S reminds me on the type of markets that there is between the U.S and China they when I look at the two countries and look at their markets they are some similarities for example both of them i can tell that they us perfect competition and monopoly i can say that it is perfect completion because both of the countries are in the top of the powerful economy country chart and want to be number one and are always creating new stuff to keep their economy strong the second when they talk about monopoly I think is more in China than in the U.S and thats because the government in that country allow it. When the article talk about chinas labor regulation and how they produce reminds me on the rights that everyone here in the us when they talk about if the company has the right to make it harassment free zone or when they talk about how in every company the workers have rights that is something china has a big problem because a lot of people think that the worker in china don 't have the same right as the workers in the U.S and that can affect the market because people are not safe and can’t produce the same work and their lives can be in stake. When the article talks about the TTP ( Trans-Pacific Partnership) they talk about trading deal can affect the economy and they also…

Cultural relativism may be defined as a theory that advocates the idea of subjective morality. To extrapolate, this theory entails that “different cultures have differing moral codes” and these variances are merely arbitrary. Although this is a seemingly sufficient theory, there are key issues with this school of thought. James Rachels suggests several issues with accepting cultural relativism. He criticizes cultural relativism by stating that the theory is absurd as it entails severe consequences if practiced.…

The downfall for many organizations is the incompetence to be able to understand the differences between cultures and wanting to promote a cross-cultural program. To promote interaction between different cultures has its advantages but takes a great amount of time and research (Barker). Not having a cross-cultural understanding will inhibit companies from being able to compete with their competition due to being unaware of other cultural differences around the world. Cross-cultural communication is no longer an option to choose to participate in companies to communicate with other individuals it is now a requirement for companies to create a program to diversify its employees to stay above the competition (Zofi).…
