Richard Kuklinski: Serial Killer

Think of the words “serial killer.” Who comes to mind? Many have left an undesirable impression on the world, but some tend to stand out from the rest. One in particular seems to be especially unique against the others: Richard Kuklinski. Standing at six and a half inches at three hundred pounds and nicknamed “The Iceman,” Richard Kuklinski was a brutal and cruel man known for killing more than one hundred men in his lifetime. Most people who knew of Kuklinski’s background would not be surprised at his behavior. Violence is something he grew up with, so Kuklinski knew nothing of love and compassion for others. Richard Kuklinski was born on April 11, 1935. He was the second born of four children. His parents, Stanley and Anna Kuklinski, were not the loving, caring parents most children grow up with. Why are they not killers? One reason could simply be because somebody took the time to introduce them to compassion. Whether it was a friend, neighbor, or relative, somebody showed the child that love does exist in the world. Kuklinski did not receive the love from others that some are blessed to have. After suffering abuse from his parents, he went off to school to be bullied. Constant negativity turned him into the monster we know today. In multiple interviews and discussions with people, he explained how he felt no sympathy for those people who died. If anything, he felt empowered. Being able to have that amount of control over someone was like a heroin to a drug addict. He fed off the feeling and needed it over and over again. No matter if the death was quick and painless or long and messy, he enjoyed every second of it.
