As a writer of a technical reports, it is important to understand the "rhetorical situation" so you can target your message for a specific audience. The term was first used by Lloyd Bitzer (1968) in “The Rhetorical Situation,” to refer to all the features of audience, purpose, and demands that serve to create a moment suitable for a rhetorical response (The College of Liberal Arts, 2015). When you understand who will read your message, you can write and form the message so that particular audience can best understand the meaning of the message (Alford and Mott, 2015).
