WW I Poster and “I Remember the Last War” Assignment
Poster 87 Page 2 - This poster shows two American flags and an all gray bald eagle. Beneath this image is the caption "Are you 100% American? Prove It! By U.S. Government Bonds, Third Liberty Loan." The rhetorical question on the image would immediately attract a person to it. Rhetorical questions get the reader to think, and this one is no different. It would get someone to ask themselves if they are a legitimate American. This question even has the possibility to offend the reader. How could a poster question if someone is a true American? A person might have actually gone out and purchased a government bond after reading this poster. By purchasing a bond, one would prove to their country that they are a real American. This would also bring along a feeling of pride. A regular American was able to help contribute to the war effort. …show more content…
In the image she is clutching a piece of paper that one can assume is a government bond. The caption of this poster is "My Daddy Bought Me a Government Bond of the Third Liberty Loan. Did Yours?" One thing that immediately beckons the attention of someone is the young girl. She appears to be cheerful, charming and innocent. Someone might invest in a government after viewing this banner just because the girl is adorable. This poster is also meant to attract fathers. Fathers would be persuaded to buy a bond in order to please their daughters. If one does not obtain a bond for his child, then he is considered a dissatisfactory
