Rhetorical Devices Used In Beau Lotto Speech

Beau Lotto speech about optical illusion present that his intended audience for his discussion is adults that seemed older than forty years. Even though the audience is presented on camera during his speech, it is possible to know that his main audience were mostly adults because the topic that Beau Lotto chose and the way he expressed himself, including his vocabulary, was better directed to adults rather than young adults or kids. During his speech, B. Lotto included several strategies to keep his audience aware during his discussion, the strategy that he included the most was the use of visual aids. Another strategy that B. Lotto used was that he implemented part of the rhetorical triangle in his speech, the figure that he mostly used is ethos, it can be observed when he refers to Barkley and also when he said “in my laboratory we…”. He implemented this type of rhetoric figure because as he mentioned these facts, he obtained more credibility from his audience and therefore, it will seem that he was fully prepared for his presentation. Beau Lotto did an excellent presentation not only because he used all the strategies mentioned before, but because he also selected a topic that was well developed for his main audience. It can be observed that he took into consideration all elements like location, occasion and audience size when he started involving more his audience in his speech, if he stood up there and started to talk without the use of visual aids or other props, his audience may have felt bored and maybe his main idea will not reach the people the way he wanted
