If you couldn’t tell by now Rachel isn’t relishing her being eleven especially what happen in school for her.There was an incident that happened when she was in school. Someone left their red sweater and while everyone’s claiming that the sweater is not theirs Rachel is contemplating if the is her’s or not. In paragraph eight Rachel says the sweater is “an ugly sweater with red plastic buttons and a collar and sleeves all stretched out like you can use it for a jump rope”. Not only using a simile, but dialogue for Rachel’s inner thoughts about the sweater. When Sylvia says “ I think it belongs to Rachel” and Mrs.Price agreeing with Sylvia saying “I remember you wearing it once” had Rachel in a panic. Rachel despises that she is eleven and wishes she was one hundred and two so she can have more wisdom. Another inner thought that Rachel had is “how long till lunchtime, how long till I can take this ugly red sweater and throw it over the school yard fence”. This illustrates that Rachel doesn’t like being eleven.
In summation, “Eleven” by Sandra Cisneros characterizes Rachel's feelings by using rhetorical devices. Rachel isn’t happy that she is only eleven she wish she was older than eleven.
