"Surge" is an energy drink that claims to boost your energy and help you stay awake not only to study, but also keep you awake during your test. Music is one of the quickest ways to appeal to an audience. In the "Surge" advertisement we open with sad and slow music, which should appeal to the audience and they should notice that what the actors are doing is something upsetting or something that most people don't like to do. In the next scene, the music becomes more upbeat and fun, which means that there are better things to come in the advertisement. Diction is also a way to get pathos into an advertisement. The facial expressions of the people in the advertisement also help the use of pathos. In the advertisement, before the use of "Surge," one of the characters has fallen asleep during a test and wakes up right before the test ends. The facial expressions of the student show worry and stress when trying to finish the test, and sadness and defeat when getting the test back with the bad grade. After drinking "Surge" the student can stay awake during the test, and once the student gets their test back, the facial expressions were happy and excited. According to dictionary.com ethos means, "an appeal to ethics, and it is a means of convincing someone of the character or credibility of the persuader." The advertisement uses ethos when the unpaid actors say how "Surge" helped them in their lives. One person said that it was better than coffee for him, another said that it was better than before because it had no artificial colors or preservatives, and another said that they couldn't believe that is was banned, but it is now better that it was before. They also said that they still loved it maybe even more than before. Dan Guisly, is a college student, which helps bring his credibility up, because he is trying to sell the drink to college students. He states that he has tried a lot of other energy drinks and none of them work as good as 'Surge" does. He also states that the drink is now Food and Drug Association (FDA) approved. This is a big deal because not a lot of products are approved by the FDA. The advertisement shows the before and after. By showing the student taking the test before "Surge" and after "Surge." They do this again, when the students are walking down the hall way. Before "Surge" the three students are slow, heavy footed, falling asleep, and falling down while walking down the hallway. After "Surge" the students are walking down the hall they are happy, energetic, smiling, laughing, and having fun. The advertisement was showing you what your life
