I believe this piece is purely meant to be an informational piece. The author presents no opinion to the audience and has no purpose to write said article outside of educating the reader.

“A couple of years ago, researchers at NASA’s Johnson Space Centre discovered a thruster system which actually generates thrust, despite requiring absolutely no propellant.”
(Paragraph 1, Line 1)
Personally, I do not believe this is a quality opening hook, simply because it would only be engaging towards and audience with previous knowledge of astrophysics and space travel. This opening statement might befuddle some readers causing them to turn away from the article.

I believe the target audience of this article is those who already

It’s no longer a secret that we do not have the full control over our personal decision-making process. Even though we often say the last word about situations that directly influences our circumstances, it would be inaccurate to claim that other agents’ opinions and persuasion techniques do have any impact on our actions. In fact, we are constantly being persuaded into tasting meals that otherwise would not be on our plate by corporate companies, politicians, and even our own family members and friends. Carol Tavris, a social psychologist that often appears in credible news sources such as the New York Times and the Scientific American, explores this phenomenon through her article “Want to Get People to ‘Yes’? Follow the Lessons of Robert…

Khryzthea Irizarry Polsc 110 Media The article, Reimagining Journalism: The Story of the One Percent by Michael Massing, expresses and provides evidence that “Big Money” is influencing American society. The wealthy one percent of Americans influence and buy our representatives; whether they be, presidents to local mayors. The wealthy are able to successfully “buy” representatives by “donating” money to their campaigns. One example of how “donors” can “buy” representatives is, 158 wealthy families had contributed 176 million dollars to Democratic and Republican candidates during the first phase of the presidential campaign in October of 2015.…

The author’s tone expresses both positive and negative bias in the viewpoint of the article. In the article it states, “First, employees ended up "gaming" the program, showing up on time only when they were eligible for the award and, in some cases, calling in sick rather than reporting late. Most interestingly, workers were 50 percent more likely to have an unplanned "single absence" after the award was implemented, suggesting that employees who would otherwise have arrived to work tardy on a certain day might instead either call in sick to avoid disqualification or else simply stay home because they would be disqualified from the award regardless”.…

The article that I chose to analyze is called “How Many Black People can you Mourn in One Week” by Hannah Giorgis. The article talks about the number of black lives that have been recklessly taken; not only by cops but by other black people as well. One of the main elements to this article that really drives the point home is that although the first illustration in the article is a hashtag, the article itself isn’t defending the argument of “#BlackLivesMatter”. She is defending the argument beyond the hashtag, that black lives actually do matter and a hashtag is merely a topic of discussion. Though the author writes this article for the general public she uses words like “we” and “us” which shows a deeper relationship between her and other…
