Nisbett is analepsis, Analepsis is the use of a phrase over and over again to make a point. He uses the words “Westerners” and “Easterners” throughout the book multiple times to get the audience to understand the big difference between the thinking process of Asians and Americans. In the beginning of the book he is explaining the greek world, thought process and the way they run their society. Then in the second chapter he is explaining the Chinese and their origins, world and thought process. He uses the first to chapter to introduce the topic then he proceeds to explain the differences. Nisbett starts to use “Westerner” and “Easterner” (p.g. 163,146,115). He explains the thought processes then uses the words westerner and easterner for the audience to know which process he is thinking and talking about, he also uses the western and easterner to summarize what he is pushing for the reader to think about and how they should change the way they think. “ Just as remarkably, the social structures and sense of self that are characteristic of Easterners and Westerners seem to fit hand in glove with their respective belief systems and cognitive processes.” (p.g. Xvii Introduction). The use of analepsis for the words Westerner and Easterner are pushing the audience to think of what process Nisbett is talking about and what he wants them to get from reading the book is, which is to think about how the thought process of the world should continue in the future.
