He begins his speech by commenting on the great number of people who are present, mentioning how nice it is and thanking them for coming. He mentions how great it is “to be in a wonderful city”, which is in turn a compliment to the audience as most of them would live in this city. He then makes a joke about Rick Perry, who was sweating early during his speech. This humour humanises Trump as it shows he can make jokes. This could however be perceived as an attack on Perry instead. Immediately after this he turns his humour towards Lincoln Chaffee and his less-than-full audience.
