Rhetorical Analysis Of Trump's Inaugural Address

Improved Essays
Although, I have never been one to really focus on politics, the persuasion of the audience plays an important aspect on my view of both speeches. In President Obama’s speech, the audience was chanting his name which indicated that they were fond of him. Yet in President Trump’s speech the audience did not support him as much. There were few claps from the audience in President Trump’s video. This had indicated that many citizens were far more supportive of President Obama and not so much of Donald Trump.
President Trump’s inaugural speech discussed how the citizens are suffering and the how much power there was for the citizens of the United States. President Trump had amazing word choices! He used a reasonable vocabulary which benefited the

President Trump had horrible hand gestures. He used the same hand gestures repeatedly which was irritating, because this is not the only time in his speech which I noticed the same hand gestures. President Trump constantly puts his hand in the air, pointing his finger and using the “it’s okay” hand gesture (pinching his thumb and pointer finger together and keeping the other fingers up). I believe a speaker should constantly try something new when presenting a new speech. Although in the middle of President Trump’s inaugural speech, the audience was being more supportive of his ideas for our country by clapping and cheering him on. I did not like President Trump style of speaking because he was not sincere about having that amount of power. President Trump was not humble whatsoever in his inaugural speech which personally plays a big factor when speaking. He started off by thanking a few people who were in office before him. “Chief Justice Roberts, President Carter, President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama, fellow Americans, and people of the world: thank you.” I believe this was great until he stated his next sentence. “We, the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national …show more content…
His speech was about the citizens of the United States and what binds the nation together. “We recall that what binds this nation together is not the colors of our skin or the tenets of our faith or the origins of our names.” He constantly discussed everyone should have freedom not just in the United States but in other countries as well. President Obama had astonishing delivery verbal and nonverbal. President Obama had amazing hand gestures. President Obama used his hand gestures when needed, this indicted which parts of the speech were important. He would use the hand gestures to point out the important words. He also did a fine job on his vocals as well. President Obama would use a different tone when speaking about an important subject or to point out important words. His voice was bold and very entertaining which made me want to hear his speech. Although, his voice did not change, it was at the same tempo throughout his speech. Personally, I would like for the speech to have bold and timid moments not just bold throughout the speech. The audience was supportive throughout the speech by clapping and cheering President Obama. In President Trump’s speech, the audience was not that involved in the speech which played a bit factor in my opinion. I loved President Obama’s speech and his speaking style because he was genuine and humble. Personally, I believe that is the key to mastering the

The general purpose of this speech was to draw attention to our societal isolation, and how we don’t do enough to promote positive mental health. Mr. Junger talks about the horrors of war, and the toll it takes on veterans. He talks about PTSD and the mental health of these veterans. He then talks about how these veterans return to the U.S., and find themselves isolated and alone. He uses examples of how bad veteran suicide is here, and contrasts that with the Navajo warriors and Israeli soldiers.…

Interestingly, this also may have been Trump’s best performance. Trump appeared more presidential than he has ever appeared, though that is not saying much. He rarely attacked or insulted people (though he did get mad at the audience, claiming they were planted to boo him), refused to draw red lines, and even made some good points, such as drawing attention to the use of eminent domain in the Keystone XL pipeline (though, he lost that exchange in the conventional…

Have you ever wondered who has the inauguration in history? The best inauguration speech in history to me was John F. Kennedy´s. President Kennedy gave the best inauguration speech in history. One reason this was the best inauguration speech is because he speaks the truth. Not a lot of people like people who tell the truth they would rather have a liar in office than someone who speaks the truth.…

The Inauguration Speech and “A More Perfect Union” has many similarities and differences. One of their similarities is that they both want no one to be forgotten. Obama said in his speech in “A More Perfect Union” that everyone deserves to be equal, and Trump said that we all share the same glorious freedoms and the same great American flag. One of their differences is that they have different points to make America better. Obama had to do with healthcare and discrimination, while Trump wanted to get rid of illegal immigrants and making America first.…

A speech such as this is a perfect example of communication, and the construction and delivery of messages. To begin, Trump delivered the State of the Union address in a direct in-person oration. He intended to inform, and sometimes to persuade, Congress and the public. The speech consisted of about five-thousand-three-hundred words, yet had a run time of over one hour and twenty minutes; making it one of the longest State of the Union speeches. This might have been because of the large and sometimes vague scope of his message and a lack of energy in the delivery, especially in the first half of the address.…

I also feel, since this was broadcasted live, that his facial expressions were playing a key role in his speech. Also, as his speech was broadcasted through live television, I feel his facial expression played a role in the speech. It was important what facial expressions he made. He was able to keep good eye contact with the camera, making it appear that he was talking to every American citizen who was watching it live. His facial expressions showed one of sadness and shock which played a vital role because if someone was smiling, they would not be able to empathize with the audience in this situation.…

Throughout the two speeches given by George W. Bush and Barack Obama, there are a lot of differences as well as similarities between the two. However, a few differences and a similarity will be focused on. The connotations and use of certain words speak volumes about how each president decided to approach their speeches and how they felt about the situation itself. Both presidents also decided to reference The Bible and end their speeches with “God bless America”. The main message and tone of the speeches were also day and night.…

In the beginning of the speech President Obama said, “My fellow citizens” (Jan, 2009). An emotional image was drawn in the citizen mind that the president has goals and aims in common. Goals and aims that helping to solve the current problems that most of the citizens had. Also, the president used through his speech we to connect himself the public and he stands as citizen like them. Obamas speech was calculated and structured with many rhetorical strategies playing to his favor, so that his overall message was easily communicated, and both viewers and possible voters were able to understand and connect with his ideas. Two rhetorical strategies that seemed to aide his speech the most were the use of pathos and repetition. His reasoning for choosing these were probably due to the fact that this was his first speech as an official presidential candidate, and he wanted to be persuasive and precise on exactly what the forefront of his campaign was about and what he plans to do if elected. Where pathos appeals to ones emotion, it allows for a connection on a more personal level, which ultimately would further a greater sense of purpose or reason to get involved in what could be done. Obama said, “Beneath all the differences of race…

Lincoln used the opportunity to try and bring a wounded nation back together, employing several rhetorical strategies in his speech. Lincoln wrote his Second Inaugural Address himself. The language style is emotional and motivating, because he uses pathos and ethos to achieve. He uses the pronouns “we” and “our” a lot, which gives the audience a sense of inclusiveness. It gives them the feeling that the speaker, Barack Obama, and the people aren’t so different, and that feeling gives the audience an unconsciously pride, and that makes them start to admire him and take his side. The analysis reveals that Obama uses the elements of Ethos and Pathos in his speech quite frequently. This could be, because he was very interested in motivating and persuading people by appealing to their emotions instead of their intellect, as it is easier to persuade people emotionally, at least in this context.…

Obama displays himself as someone who they can trust and listen to. In addition, by starting his speech this way, Obama shows how thankful he is to be a citizen of America and indirectly implies that every citizen should be just as proud to be a citizen of America. Obama then continues on to the next portion of his speech, which encompasses what he hopes to see America accomplish in the future. The “climax” of his speech is in Obama’s last section, which contains the whole reason in why Obama made the speech in the first place and…
