This reading response is going to be focused on the inner battle of Jonathan Edwards. in Jonathan “Edwards’ sermon, “Sinners in the hands of an angry God” Edwards continually talks about serving an absolute God that controls everything and owes human beings nothing but punishment. Edwards also speaks on how being a Christian is life changing. Even though a conformed Christian believes in God, they are still humans first and dealing with their own personal issues. Edwards dealing with his own personal issues, which causes Edwards to give himself completely to God. Edwards says “but yet, it was not long after my recovery, before I fell again into my old ways of sin. But God would not suffer me to go on with any quietness; but I had a great and violent inward struggles: till after many conflicts with wicked inclinations, and repeated resolutions, and bonds that I laid myself under by a kind of vows to God, I was brought wholly to break off all former wicked ways, and all ways of known outward sin; and to apply myself to seek my salvation, and practice the duties of religion: but without that kind affection and delight, that I had formerly experienced.” (Edwards, p.179)
Jonathan Edwards was born a son of a minister, which I personally believe set the foundation for his calling to become a revivalist preacher. Edwards was a very intelligent child and was taught by his father and elder
