“Nothing is perfect.” Though social media brings us uncountable convenience, there is a trade-off with the convenience. Due to the advanced technology we have, social media has become part of our life, which it means that social media could affect our sociability. In Peggy Orenstein’s “I Tweet, Therefore I Am,” though she praises Tweeter for its convenience, at the same time, she also worries that “(Twitter) makes the greasepaint permanent, blurring the lines not only between public and private but also between the authentic and contrived self.” Since we don’t care about who we talk to, we might act abnormally due to our feelings, and sometimes our reaction in social media can bring a disaster to our lives. Players feel excitement and happiness, or anger and sadness from playing games due to the different situations in the game. Players may cheer their “Multi-kill” a minute ago, and they would suddenly rage against anyone in their team for the “death-streak.” This type of feeling shift is so common in online gaming and it is all based on our mind of projection, a self-defense mechanism that “(misattributes) a person’s undesired thoughts, feelings or impulses onto another person who does not have those thoughts, feelings or impulses” (Grohol, 2016). By projection, we release our grief with anger to others, which it has the potential of danger due to the unexpected …show more content…
For example, Team Secret, a famous professional DOTA2 team, was revealed that its captain, Clement 'Puppey ' Ivanov, suddenly outraged after a public game. Puppey is always considered as a calm and wise player and also a responsible leader of Team Secret. However, in” A Secret Story” by Jacky "EternaLEnVy" Mao, an ex-Secret player, EternaLEnVy posted a short video from CCTV about Puppey on his blog and referred that “For this video, Puppey told me he was playing a s***** pub. Kuroky and Zai (the other players of the team) were playing some custom game and were having “way too much fun.” Puppey got mad and threw his headset at the monitor. The monitor did break by the way, so Secret had to pay for a new one.” From the description from EternaLEnVy and the video clip he provided, we can notice that Puppey’s emotion is strongly affected by the games. As he loses the game, he just projects his anger to the monitor. Normally, a monitor is able to take some hits before it is completely broken; and here Puppey just throws his headset on the monitor and it immediately breaks. Thus, we can imagine how powerful the headset is thrown, and how angry Puppey is. Luckily, the target is just a monitor; however, how do we know what would happen in the future if Puppey kept reacting that
