The Declaration of Independence is important for nationalism of this country because it is at the base of nationalism as they achieved their independence from a country that is very powerful. Throughout the declaration, it names many of the wrongdoings of Great Britain and near the end they end up telling the King of Great Britain they are leaving the empire. “ And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”(Jefferson 1). Most countries won’t go up against Great Britain because of how military strong they or they do not have enough pride with their country that they can take them down and get their independence, but the US has a lot of nationalism throughout the revolution as they keep on showing it that they will beat Britain no matter what the cost is, just to get their freedom. Throughout his presidency, President Roosevelt promoted nationalism and also helped the US become a country that is involved with many things internationally and believe that they should be the ones fixing all of the problems in the Western Hemisphere. When the Dominican Republic went bankrupt, Mr. Roosevelt released the Roosevelt corollary which said that no one should interfere outside of the Western Hemisphere with this section of the world because the US is superior and can handle it. “It is far better that this country should put through such an arrangement, rather than allow any foreign country to undertake it.”(Roosevelt 1). This a huge example of nationalism and how the US thought they were already better than other countries and felt that they should handle the problems and do not need interference from other countries. It also showed that the US has not changed that much in nationalistic type of way as the country thinks it 's better to do stuff on their own and not let anyone interfere with it.
