Rhetorical Analysis On July 23rd, 2012 an article was in Sports Illustrated magazine that was written by Michael Rosenberg and it was titled, “Shattered”. This opinion article is very information filled. It was written in response to the controversy to remove the Joe Paterno statue or not. This statue is outside of Beaver Stadium at Penn State University, and it was going to be taken down because of the recent scandal that had taken place. Jerry Sandusky, a member of the football coaching staff at Penn State, sexually assaulted children on the campus and tried to hide it by covering it up. In Rosenberg’s article he makes very strong points about what should be done with the statue. Also in Rosenberg’s article, he makes an even stronger point about how college football is the real problem. …show more content…
The reason why he gives a lot of information is to give his readers or audience to show them that he knows what he is talking about. For example, he says, “…former FBI Director Louis Reeh’s 267 page report blew a hole right through that…” (Shattered). The reason he sights the Freeh Report is because this is the report that proved the scandal at Penn State. In Rosenberg’s article, he did not focus on ethos, but he moved to demonstrate his ethos. Everyone assumed that he knew what he was talking about, because he was a published author in Sports Illustrated, which was a very credible sport magazine.
