In order to encourage others to care about one’s concerns, they must be persuasive. It is not enough to simply state an opinion, but to spark a fire in others to really make them believe an issue matters. Paul Bogard uses persuasive elements and credible evidence to encourage others to share his worries on light pollution.
In the very beginning of Bogard’s article, he latches on to the audience’s sense of nostalgia when describing his memories of starry nights. Many have similar experiences in their own way, making them yearn to see natural darkness again. He also appeals to the audience’s emotions by explaining how future generations will be affected by light pollution. The fifth paragraph goes into detail about the soulfulness of the night
