Chapter 1 John In The Bible

Many people enjoy reading books that are in their favorite genre. This seems to be the case, because they can just enjoy the story line and not really think of deep meanings that could be hidden within the pages. However, many people find it hard to read a difficult text and dwell over the words until they truly understand the text. Reading 1 john does exactly that. 1 John seems to be a short book of the Bible, but it is filled with so many lessons that one must take time to analyze each chapter individually to uncover the message. Within this paper, I broke down the chapters into sections of the paper and discussed the messages of the chapter in greater detail.

Mark Jeske outlined many ways Christians will live their lives differently than non-believers in his commentary. He started out with talking about a marriage between Christians. Mark Jeske said that when two Christians decided to marry one another, it is not only until the fun is gone. A marriage is until death separates one spouse from another. This is why Christians will stay with their spouse after the fun is gone; that is what God has told them to do. This makes Christians different from others of this world. Others will just get a divorce when they are no longer having a fun time with their …show more content…
This can be simplified into faith in Jesus as the Savior, and the acceptance of baptism and and redemption through the life and death of Jesus Christ to purify us from our sins. Mark Jeske describes a life of faith as a life of truly living; before faith, we were dead in transgression of sin. He says our life of true faith is showing true love to other people throughout the world. Jeske then went on to describe how our life of faith may look to others. He says Christians will rejoice in the knowledge of their salvation through Jesus Christ. Mark Jeske also says Christians will live a life of good choices even when the devil attacks believers with temptations. A life of faith will be filled with enduring hardship without becoming bitter towards God. Finally, he says a life of faith will come to and end with being raised from the dead and entering eternal life on the day of judgement.
On the opposite end, a life of faith is not when one continuously does bad and asks for forgiveness. A life of faith is also not shown questioning if God is doing good in their life if something they did not want ends up happening to them. As I live my life of faith, I hope people will see that I trust God is leading me down the correct path I need to be on. I also hope that people can see that I am different from others

My definition of faith is constantly being shaped and challenged by the world and different experiences around me. Our past has so much to say about who we are as individuals, just as the history of the bible has so much to tell us about how to interpret it and make connections in the present. My life has been built on a strong foundation of church family and constant love from our creator. In our readings, I feel that Sumney does a great job of explaining how the bible is set up and how we as students can begin diving into the content that it holds. I grew up attending Grace Hill Mennonite Church in rural Whitewater, KS with my family of four.…

The Book of John is foundational to the Christian faith. As a foremost document declaring the deity of Jesus, the text decisively establishes that He is God. Contained in the book, there are clear declarations by Jesus where He uses the name of God for Himself. By using the Old Testament name of God, “I AM,” Jesus is speaking in a style that presents Himself as deity. One place where this testimony is undisputable is in the description of the Good Shepherd.…

One cannot help but love the uniqueness of this gospel. It gives an intriguing, symbolic message to present the story of Jesus. We also encounter Jesus in a way we had never seen prior. He tends to speak in full discourses to address situations rather than speaking in parables as seen in the Synoptic gospels (LTJ, pg. 469). John’s gospel also presents us with information that is not recorded in any other gospel.…

Over the years, Jewish faith has started to be lost because of the hardships faced in the holocaust. The thought of there being a god that protects them slowly diminished due to the fact they had to face all of these tortures. Many still believe in the “almighty god” that is supposed to protect you while others gave up in the “supposed god” that protects you from all of the evils of the world and give good things to those that have done nothing wrong and followed him wholeheartedly. Also, the generations to come after the holocaust would have their ideology influenced by the previous generations because of their loss in faith. Faith is what someone believes in, regardless in actually knowing in what people are putting faith into.…

One’s faith is dictated by believing in God but in some cases like the Christians have, believing that Christ revealed God through the Catholic Church and the body of Christ is united in the Holy Spirit. The word “believing” in the statement above means that our God wants us to partake in His divine life. Faith is one of the most evident replies we can give to God as a sign that we are his disciples and accept Him as our one and only Lord and Saviour. It is when we knock in his door that he says, “Please come in!” Yes, I do think that we believers of God must possess a certain type of dedication that we must change in order for us to live by His words and follow Him.…

The Gospel of John is one of the four Gospels written to tell the story of Jesus’ life. Just as Matthew, Mark, and Luke have given their accounts of Jesus’ miracles so has John. Though these accounts may have their own way of telling what is important to them, the main fact is that these Gospels were recorded so that we may learn more of the word of God. “In order to understand John’s approach to the story of Jesus, the reader must recognize the centrality of the incarnation of the Gospel” (NIB 1905). The book of John begins, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).…

How My Faith Defines Who I Am Faith: having a strong belief in a religion, or an even stronger belief in a God. I personally believe in God the Father, and that he created each and every one of us in his own image. I believe that Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sin and brought us new life through his death and resurrection. In my faith I stand as a Catholic, which means I believe in only one God. However, God is three persons, also known as the Holy Trinity, meaning there is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.…
