Carhartt, the famous sporting brand that not just me, but almost any American in todays’ world recognizes the brand Carhartt. It is found all over the world in todays media outlets. Whether those outlets being a television commercial, internet ad, or billboard, all elements portray and defines the true message given that is pertaining to the advertisement. Carhartt is well known for heavy-duty-type clothing that is generally used for hard working jobs that revolve around tough conditions. Although they do specialize in a lot of hunting gear and normal clothing. Having a strong passion for the outdoors, I find myself constantly active and engaged in on something outside. First, the man outside dressed in warm clothes and a stocking cap gives it away that it’s obviously fairly cold outside. On the hand, the ad seems to be staged outside in the woods as the background is seen to be “woody” area with tress. What makes up this ad is a tree log that is being carried over one shoulder on the man. With those 3 key aspects, it’s obvious that you can determine a “hard working man” is the front of this advertising a brand that is aimed towards men but can easily be for women too as Carhartt sells the same products both ways. The problem here is that Carhartt keeps making these advertisements that reinforce male dominance. Specifically, this ad makes up societies expectation of a hard working man and confirming that kind of work is only meant for men. Well, that’s wrong because I’ve witnessed women doing that same kind of work before when I helped cut down tress. Women should not feel obligated or judged to do hard work. And when coming to advertisements like these, we should see more women on the front of the ad to reassure that women can be just as strong and can achieve the same abilities as
