During his speech Obama, in a way, comforted America about their past, and reassures them for the future. Knowing that some of the country will doubt him and the choices he will make, he appeals to the audience with pathos and ethos by using rhetorical devices such as tricolons, anaphora and allusion to create a convincing speech. He refers to the damage that has happened in the past and need to keep moving forward. Here Obama appeals to ethos, persuading his audience that this is the right way to move forward.
