Many people smoke cigarettes because it calms their body when stressed. Tobacco has been growing wild in america for more than 8,000 years. Around 2,000 years ago tobacco began to be chewed and smoked during cultural or religious ceremonies and events. The first european to ever smoke tobacco was Christopher Columbus.Cigarette making machines were developed in the latter half of the 1800s. The first such machines produced about 200 cigarettes per minute, nowadays a cigarette machine mass produce up to 9,000 cigarettes per minute.Cheap mass production and the use of cigarette advertising allowed tobacco companies to expand their markets during this period.The advertisement above is a anti-smoking advertisement that catches the reader 's eye with the colors as well as the objects in the photo itself. The photo is very eye catching because it makes a stand and a strong one at that. This ad was made to target smokers and show them what smoking can do. The statement, “I want to live not to die” Makes the picture even stronger. The pictures is very eye catching to the reader and makes it very readable. This ad has an emotional appeal, also known as pathos. A pathos is the emotional appeal made to persuade the audience by appealing to their emotions. The main target for this ad is smokers and people that are thinking about smoking. It wants us to see how it can kill you and how it will kill you. It wants you to think about how it will ruin your your life. This ad makes people think about what they are doing with their lives and how just a few puffs off of a cigarette can ruin your life as well as the people 's lives around you too. Do not let a cigarette ruin your life, keep the mentality to live and do not risk it all with a cigarette, it 's not worth
