Brady uses ethos to connects with her female audience by showing them she is an expert when she states “I am a wife” (2229). By using ethos in the beginning of the passage this helps the author claim authority and sets the theme for the rest of the passage. Brady also uses logos to help make sense of what she is saying; however in this passage one could argue that Brady's use of logos is more pathos than anything else. In this passage Judy Brady uses pathos to help connect and show her audience how ridiculous the time were back in the 70’s.

I think the use of pathos throughout the passage helps to show just how irate Brady is when it comes the the expectations of a wife's role. For example when Brady says, “I want a wife who will not bother me with rambling complaints about a wife’s duties. But will listen to my complaints instead (229). When reading this part of the passage one could get very disturbed by the fact its as if men think all woman ever do is complain and they should have to listen to us but we must always be there to listen to them and help all of their needs. The longer the passage proceeds the more you can tell how ridiculous or even exaggerated Brady's claims become. For example: If i find another person more suitable as a wide than the wife i already have, i want the liberty to be able to replace my present wife with another one (230). This shows us that Brady is telling us that men think that we are just replaceable objects at this point. Showing us her transitions from using evidence to logic connects with the audience into trusting her and believing what she is saying to be true now that Brady starts using pathos the audience starts to feel her same emotions on the subject and have a deeper connection to what Brady is trying to
