In my chosen article “Halliburton upbeat on 2018 as oil recovery spreads” the authors’ used ethos, pathos, and logos throughout the entire video, for the sole purpose of convincing their audience.
Ethos can be identified by the authors’ statement that “Halliburton quarterly revenue spurted nearly fifty percentage higher and met the rebound in the energy sector”. This gives the audience the latest facts and statistics about Halliburton. Next the authors’ quoted CEO Jeff Miller statement that says “I am optimistic about what I see in 2018.” This is a citation of an expert in the business, which helps to gain the audience’s trust. In addition, the speaker sounds well informed about the topic, based on all the facts, statistics, and choice of words used. …show more content…
He quoted that “We continue to believe Halliburton is extremely well positioned to benefit from strong demand, and the tight U.S. pressure pumping market as well as gradually improving activity internationally.” This statement instills a positive emotion of trust for prospective and current employees, customers, and suppliers of Halliburton. It instills a sense of anticipation, because now there is expectation of growth. And it can also have a surprising effect on some of its audience, since some people weren’t expecting this drastic recovery in the oil and gas
