Do I Deserve to Pass Eng1020 Class? “Do you like to write? What do you enjoy about writing? What is difficult about writing?” (Weaver 9). In the beginning the semester, Professor Weaver began with a list of questions. This is a good way to quickly learn about new students, while simultaneously learning their opinion on English and writing. For someone like me, who is definitely not a fan of writing, the answers to the questions posed were respectfully, no, when it is over, and finding the desire to begin. Although, I do not particularly have an affinity for writing I still believe that I deserve to pass ENG1020. I am a motivated student and I have consistently achieved high grades in the assignments. Learning objective #1 was satisfied through the rhetorical analysis essay. Learning objective #1 is to be able to “use reading strategies in order to identify, analyze, evaluate…rhetorical elements, and genre convections in college-level texts” (Weaver 2). This objective was met in the JFK Steel Speech. The goal of the rhetorical essay was to identify and analyze the rhetorical strategies that President Kennedy used. I identify the logos, ethos and pathos that Kennedy used in the Steel Speech. Before writing the essay, I highlighted and took notes on the steel speech printout to the rhetorical elements used by President Kennedy. Once they were identified, I used them to write my essay. In the essay I analyzed and evaluated the college-level text to show how President Kennedy persuaded his audience. I successfully satisfied this learning objective because I received an 89/100 on the rhetorical analysis essay. Professor Weaver commented that my analysis was “well done” (“Rhetorical Analysis” 8) and I analyzed President Kennedy argument and how he used rhetorical elements to show his credibility, and to appeal to American, both emotionally and …show more content…
I proved my competency in this with my researched argument essay because I effectively analyzed my credible source and used them to enforce my argument against the media. On the rubric I received a 99/100, this grade proves that I effectively analyzed the sources and used them to form an argumentative essay that’s persuades audiences to agree with me. On the rubric the body paragraphs were evaluated based on the writer’s ability to support and create an argument, properly refute the opposing argument and appropriately use sources to back up arguments. According to Professor Weaver, my sources were strong, I did a good job at refuting and overall by body paragraphs were done well (“Researched Argument” 11). My grade and Professor Weaver’s satisfaction with my work proves that I can compose a persuasive argument and analysis, which satisfies learning objective
