Throughout the Rhetorical Analysis paper that I completed for this English 101 class, I called back to many of my past experiences in high school that allowed me to interpret the meaning of the song that I decided to choose. The main skills from my past that I referenced were: my ability to comprehend text, my ability to convey a message through an essay, and my ability to view a text with an open mind. Opening my mind to the text was one of the more challenging abilities that I used. Using this ability allowed me to grasp the meaning of this particularly challenging text and, due to how easily I completed the required length of the paper, I believe that I was fairly successful in my endeavor. The use of these abilities and strategies, also allowed me to write more clearly and resulted in a more pleasant and consistent paper for the reader. Other strategies, such as my use of metacognition, helped me more clearly explain my positions, allowing me to convey my opinions more intelligently and making the paper both interesting and informative.
Throughout my first paper I could not help but recall how similar that the prompts for my papers in high school were to this style of prompt. While this prompt was different in the required media that I had to analyze, I am very acquainted with the concept of a …show more content…
The reasons that I believe the prompt was so successful; was because the prompt not only gave us an outline that we have been adapted to in our high school classes, but also, placed the students outside of their comfort zones, by challenging them to analyse a medium that they have, most likely, never had to analyse before, consequently, putting the students in a situation, in which, they are forced to adapt and mature their abilities to analyse the text and express their opinions in essay
