As we research through the time periods there seems to be a reflection of societal belief systems on not only rhetoric study and how speech makers present their message but also the function of the audience. Progressing from ancient Greek times where Aristotle felt that listeners were dishonest to the postmodernist theories on individual perceptions. The thought that oratory one-sided perspective has been the emphasis in rhetoric there needs to be more research related to why the audience has a reaction or opinions developed from the message and orator.
