Advantages Of A Critical Thinking Approach

Critical Thinking Critical thinking is that mode of thinking that requires skillfully analyzing, assessing, and reconstructing ideas and conclusions. Critical thinking is self-directed, self-disciplined, self-monitored, and self-corrective thinking. The entire process is very personal. Fortunately there have been many studies conducted on the approaches to critical thinking, and it is safe to assume that there will be many more in the future. In this paper I will attempt to explain several of these approaches and express my opinion on which approach is the most efficient and appropriate. The first approach that I will discuss is called the Sponge Method. Now in this method the thinker absorbs as much information as possible. Much like a sponge would with water. This approach uses the philosophy that the more information that is available the better it will be to understand the world. The advantage to using this approach is that it is fast and relatively easy to apply, especially when the question or topic at hand is simple. I present to you the fact that everyone has their own approach to critical thinking. Each of us has developed a system over time in order to reach the best outcome to our problems, and given proper practice we will continue to refine our systems. In addition to this not every approach will work in every situation. That is why it is, in my opinion, that having knowledge of several approaches is the most appropriate way to apply critical thinking. This is the best way, because situations change and not every one of the situations that we are faced with will be complex. However, many situations will be so complex that they will require us to seek assistance in order to find the most suitable and feasible
