17 December 2015 On the 16th of December, we held a presentation in front of the teachers to prove whether our book fit into the curriculum or not, and why. Throughout the presentation, I constantly made use of two rhetorical devices, which were rhetorical question and pathetic appeal. In the beginning, I made use of the rhetorical question by asking the audience whether they have personally met or confronted a victim of physical/sexual abuse or teen pregnancy. For the most part, the answer to the question went as planned. This rhetorical device is actually similar to the way I used the other device that I used, rhetorical question, in the sense that they both caused the audience, the teachers, to think about the victims of physical/sexual abuse or teen pregnancy. The way that I incorporated pathetic appeal into my presentation is how I discussed the sensitive topic of physical/sexual abuse and teen pregnancy. Physical/sexual abuse and teen pregnancy is one of the points brought up in my book, The Bean Trees. I explained how very little of these victims speak up about their problem. They keep their emotions bottled up inside them, which are bound to cause later problems. Therefore, by adding The Bean Trees into our curriculum, we can raise awareness of for these victims and show them that they are not alone, and that it is ok to talk about their problems. I assume that the teachers understood my point, as they nodded their heads. As before, I had used the device of rhetorical question, so my two rhetorical devices played nicely into each other. I got the teachers to consider the fact that little victims of abuse and teen pregnancy reveal themselves, followed up by emotionally appealing to them by discussing how important it was to talk to and raise awareness for the
