While there are many interesting people in the world, Rex Walls is a man who is probably way more interesting than any other man you will meet in your life. Rex Walls, the father of four children, is a amazing man, who can do all sorts of things! Rex has done many great things, and bad things, but he is a good parent and will be told on in the memoir The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. Rex is suffering from a disease, alcohol addiction, but he makes up for his sickness by being incredibly smart and adventurous. Rex is unfortunately an addict. Throughout the majority of his adult life, he has been addicted to alcohol. He finally managed to break free of his curse of alcohol addiction, but after the grand canyon adventure, he resorts back

He thinks up very impressive designs for a many great complicated things, “Dad was on the verge of perfecting his cyanide gold process” (81 Walls). Many people of the modern day find chemistry things difficult, but successfully using cyanide to collect pure gold out of the sand and earth found in the desert is an incredible feat. Rex’s previous invention, the Prospector was his first variant of his gold collection machines, which would gather gold for the family so they could be rich, “Dad was always inventing things, too. One of his most important inventions was a complicated contraption he called the Prospector. It was going to help us find gold.” (23 Walls). This machine, the Prospector, was an impressive feat if it were completed, a primitive sorting system between gold and dirt would be extremely impressive, more than the average man could make up. Rex was as good in architecture and mathematics as he was in chemistry, trying to build a house out of glass, “All of Dad’s engineering skills and mathematical genius were coming together in one special project: a great big house he was going to build for us in the desert. It would have a glass ceiling and thick glass walls and even a glass staircase…” (Walls 25). A man being able to build a house out of literal glass and have it be considered a legitimate blueprint that could work is more than the “Average Joe” could think of
