Rex Isenberg Performance Review

Decent Essays
With this concert, I was not too sure what expect seeing a vocalist, piano player and a clarinetist, but this has turned out to be my favorite concert thus far. I enjoyed how different it was from the other concerts with the music they played was more enjoyable, modern and upbeat. A positive aspect I took from this performance, was inviting and friendly the performers were. It is not everyday where they invite you to sit on stage while they do their performance because they want you to feel like you are a part of it. I really did find much negativity to this performance, besides the fact it was most sung in a different language and hard to follow, but helped me learn more of different types of music. My favorite selection was the third piece by Rex Isenberg that involved the four movements, and how they were so different yet so a like with how the music flowed like a story almost. My least favorite was the second piece by Giovanni Piacentini, because I am not a fan of music that is straight forward and dark, and where dissonce is very noticeable. …show more content…
She mentioned that originally trained with opera, being a soprano voice, which I find fascinating because it is not often you get to witness such strong vocal cords outside of it. Her voice was so different that previous voices I have heard before, not just at concerts in this class. The first piece was also very light and fluffy, given it was a romantic piece but I found it beautiful when the words would change, but the music melody would stay the same. This was the easiest piece to remember because of how she performed it and the melodies

I appreciated the effort and music the mariachi group gave in their performance. I noticed how the trumpet usually took the main role while the violins supported the trumpets voice, usually by pizzicato. The guitar and guitarrón were mainly the background music that played the same rhythm over and over. It made me realize the beauty of…

I loved the last piece in the third movement because it was played very well and it is an iconic piece. I had different emotions for the individual pieces were I felt at ease, delighted, and anxious with a dynamic feeling when the pieces go fast paced. This time I remembered the fast parts since I expected than the other first concert. The most memorable was Moonlight, presto movement. For the chamber groups they projected a playful vibe between each other enjoying when it alternates to one another.…

It was very soothing and relaxing to listen to. The music that the group produced was smooth throughout the concert. In the second song, the trumpet player used the technique of covering the hole of the trumpet where the sound comes out of with his hand and it made the trumpet sound similar to the trombone. The music was smooth and slow enough that one could move to it and follow along with it.…

The second Musician I want to talk about would be Michael Lington during the live Jazz Concert. Michael Lington is the Sax player. He is a Danish- American contemporary Saxophonist , producer, songwriter, recording artist and a purveyor of soul and contemporary Jazz. I personally love the way how the concert went, even though I’m not in the actual performance, but I still felt how excited the audiences was during the concert. During the Concert the music was played very soft and it did not have anything like the big band or African influence kind of characteristics.…

The Concert I would like to talk about is what I heard in Singapore. It was a cello concerto performed by Wang Jian and accompanied by Singapore Symphony Orchestra on March 29, 2013. The reason why I choose this concert is because the cellist gave me a very impressive memorize so that I could still recall almost everything from the concert by his playing. Another reason is that there is barely to see some Chinese cellist to play with great orchestra, but Wang Jian has done it extremely well.…

Concerts Across Time Some would say “they don’t make music like they use to”. What is the era of music are they referring to? Each person has a different view of what they refer to as the “Golden Age” of music. Music has certainly evolved from the Baroque period but after centuries of music development there is nothing wrong with sticking to the fundamentals that inspired musicians and composers for generations.…

Walking into the auditorium, I immediately noticed that the atmosphere of the concert was completely different from that of the classical concert I attended weeks earlier. To begin with, it seemed like there was much more of an audience. Everyone seemed excited for the concert to start. As for myself, I was also excited because, on the very front of the program, it said that there was a guest artist that was going to perform with the ensemble. The performers wore more of a business casual look, some were a little more dressed up than others, but overall they looked very well dressed.…

The Curtis Chamber Orchestra, played Violin Concerto No.1, No.3, and No 5. All three musical pieces consisted of unique characteristics, but I must say my favorite and the most memorable one is, Concerto No.1 in B-flat major, K. 207 with Hsuan- Hao Hsu on the violin. The downbeat, instantly caught the audience’s attention, bringing focus to the tempo and to its upbeat and joyful theme. It has a very charming and soothing sound to it, that creates more excitement, leaving the audience wanting more.…

The emotions expressed by not only the music but by how the musicians looked while playing these pieces made me believe that this show meant a lot to them because they would sway to the music when they weren’t playing. It had my emotions spiral out of control because some of the music was happy then it turned sad in an instance, then it would go right back to something whimsical. It’s not the typical kind of music that I would listen to daily but I am happy that I got to attend this event and hear something that I wouldn’t normally.…

It was very exciting to see these choirs sing with such passion. I also really liked listening to instruments live. I would rather listen to a pipe organ being played live than on a CD too. In my opinion the pipe organ sounds a lot better when it is played live too. This concert allowed me to hear new instruments live, which was a tremendously amazing experience.…

Filled with trepidation, I entered the Conservatory Concert Hall for the first time. I was about to catch a classical music concert performed by the students of the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. As I walked to my seat, I immediately noticed the abundance of spotlights present. I figured that spotlights were able to give a warm atmosphere as were able to show the audience where the focus ought to be. I also noticed a convex wall behind the stage that was draped with curtains.…
