It is the popular belief amongst non-believers that Christianity is all about rules and what someone can or can not do, a belief which is almost entirely Christianity’s fault. It is our fault because so many of us spend so much time focusing on what we can not do, from partying, to cussing, as well as many other things to seemingly make ourselves look perfect to the outside world. However, we are only lying to ourselves as well as those outside our culture, making them believe that they are not good enough because they do any of those things. In my personal experience, it is a breath of fresh air to a non-believer to meet a Christian who will not freak out when someone cusses around them or talks about partying or anything else. So, instead of living a lie of perfection with an evangelical goal of “fixing” everyone else, I strive to love others as the truth: someone who is just as flawed and messed up as everyone else. The only difference being that I have experienced a love beyond any other and want others to know that as well. The third step, in my opinion, to living a life counter to the majority is to live for Jesus and what he stood for: loving people. Christianity has become known for picketing and yelling and being against things, like drinking, drugs, divorce, gay marriage, cussing, violence in media, liberals, as well as so many other things. However, Jesus lived his whole life not against things, but for people. In that same way I intend to go back to the roots we should be attached to in the first place and love
