Revolution of 1800 The Revolution of 1800 started when a decision had to be made by the United States citizens: “Who is going to be president?”. John Adams and Thomas Jefferson went head-to-head to competed for ‘America’s favorite’ during the election. Federalists were concerned that Jefferson “would give more power to the sates, dismantle the army and navy, and overturn Hamilton’s financial system”(Digital History). The Republicans felt that the Federalists showed “contempt for the liberties of the American people. They worried that the Federalists’ ultimate goal was to centralize power in the national government”(Digital History). Each presidential candidate believed that if the other one won, there would be destruction throughout the country and all would fail.

He stated, “every difference of opinion is not a difference of principle”. As his Revolution clearly shows, “not every difference of principle is a difference of fundamental political principle”(Teaching American History). The Revolution of 1800 shows the United States of America that “the replacement of bullets by ballots in conflicts of political principle requires that the conflicting parties avoid illiberal principles” (Teaching American History). This shows that even though there may be conflicting parties, everyone should avoid any illiberal principles and embrace their democratic principles and the ideas that they might have in common. This states that the principles that should receive the most attention are those that are representing the importance of the country and do not abandon the fundamental principles of the democratic government. Jefferson’s Revolution was a large turning point in American history because it introduced the country to new Republican
