The monk's chapel of Berze-la-Ville dates from around the eleventh century near the town of Cluny, and in 1100, Hugh of Sumur, the Abbot of Cluny from 1049 to 1109, gained authority of Berze la Ville. Berze-la-Ville is covered in frescos done in eight different colors multilayered. The patrons of the chapel include St. Vincent, St. Lawrence, and St. Blaise, who are depicted in the middle layer of the apse being martyred. Christ in majesty, however, acts as the predominant figure in the apse, and he is flanked by angels and the apostles. St. Peter and St. Paul stand out among the apostles.
