He does not see how the world has transformed. When he opens his eyes, the previous world already becomes the totally different world. Especially for Coburn, as a vampire, he has a good power while living in the previous world. To drink the blood was not a problem, and he was not afraid of anyone. At first, he still thinks that it “would be easy pickings in this city by heading down to Times Square or Penn Station” (Wendig 15). However, he realizes that not enough food supply exists. Moreover, zombies are not afraid of Coburn but even approach to him, which proves that he is not the most powerful being anymore. One of the zombies “wrapped his hands around Coburn’s throat and turn the tables (11).” The new world does not let him find any fresh person, which makes him starve to the fresh blood. His reaction illustrates that the lack of preparation for the change makes difficult to deal with the problems, and to familiarize with the new environment is not easy.
On the other hand, Kayla and other characters are the roles of “experienced tourists” (Cho 21). As humans, they do not face the change suddenly. Instead, they observe the gradual transformation of the world, which helps them to deal with the crisis with more

Therefore, Coburn asked Kayla to shoot him (Wendig, 302). However, even after Kayla shoots Coburn, the world does not return to original state. “The rotters were still around, after all (309).” Then, is the world truly saved? It depends on the definition of “save”. If saving the world means returning the world into previous state, it is hard to succeed. However, if the definition is to maintain the peace, the world in Double Dead is already saved since the human, Gill and the vampire, Coburn become harmonious and rely on each other not to make Kayla’s sacrifice in

Continuing the conversation began by womanist academic Renita Weems, Marlene Underwood exposes the cycle of abuse in the book of Job. Weems wrote on the “Battered Love” used by prophets in the Hebrew Bible. These prophets employ and exploit the metaphor of violence against women to illustrate their view of God’s violence against Israel. Underwood extends this assessment to Job, a man who assumes the role of an innocent, abused “wife” while God acts as the abusive “husband.”…

“Being loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage” (Tzu 41). The concept of courage stemming from brotherly love, as stated by Tzu, has been touched for many eons, even by contemporary writers and philosophers such as Dr. King and Harper Lee. King’s article, “An Experiment in Love”, describes the unity of all men and the powerful emotion of love. Lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, details the adventures of Jem and Scout and how their father, Atticus, demonstrates wisdom and courage through defending To Robinson, an accused rapist. Martin Luther King Jr’s article, “An Experiment in Love”, corroborates that To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a love story by stating that the only way to solve the issue…

For this creative task I chose to interpret my own understanding of a spoken word poem and a songTo This Day by Shane Koyczan and Never Let Me Go by Jasmine Thomas, and produce a piece of choreography that demonstrates my understanding of similar themes of self worth and love. As I listened to the two songs I found a connection through the lyrics. To this day addresses bullying and how it effects the lives of the victims still today and how it changes them forever. While Never Let Me Go is exploring how she is finally finding some kind of peace from whatever she is going through, and no longer feels the need to pray for release or speak to explain herself. I feel the two songs together give a strong message of how you should embrace yourself…

In the comical play The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde, the author conveys a theme of the nonexistence of true love. Throughout his play, he uses two couples to illustrate his satire on his view of love by showing that they “love” each other dearly, to the point that they are engaged. One thing as small as a name is able to break these relationships. Both of the men in this illustration are incognito under the identity of “Earnest”. Both of the women see their name as a deal breaker in the relationship, which the author used as support in conveying his theme.…

Love, according to Webster, is “a strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties.”. For some, this definition of love expresses the way people develop a mutual understanding of one another to attain a level many are unable to reach. Others may believe love can happen by the chance of a glimpse and bind them together by that unknown force without any preceding knowledge of the person. In The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, the “Knight's Tale” shows that love is greater than any other power. Chaucer composed the tale to convey the idea that love brings about unforeseen outcomes.…
