This book was split into three main sections when it was being read, and each section seemed to have some kind of common theme. In the first section chapters 1 to 6 were read, and these chapters mainly covered brain growth and why some adolescents act out the way they do. When it came time to discuss this section in the literature circles there were many things that were talked about, but everyone in the group seemed to try to figure out how teachers can take this information that was directed towards parents and apply it in the classrooms. When it came to applying this, there were a few questions that were asked. One of these was dealing with how could a teacher take the question “What Is Your Parenting Style?” and changed it to “What Is Your Teaching Style?”. With this it was discussed and agreed upon that as teachers we all need to that there needs to be rules and expectations for the adolescents, but at the same time when they mess up or make a mistake they should be lead in the correct direction to fixing what they did wrong, or if what was done can’t be fix help them understand why it went wrong and how to fix it/prevent it in the future. This time there were many different things that were talked about in the literature circle, but it seemed as though the three topics that kept on coming back were about drugs, technology, and teen pregnancy. When it came to the drugs there was an article that covered mainly the topic of marijuana, in the article the main focus was how using it as an adolescent could lead to other issues later in life. In the book, Dr. Walsh talked about how a big influence on if an adolescent will or will not do certain things all depends on how the parents view them. Going off of that, one of the main things that was talked about was how if an adolescent looks up to someone who does drugs also and doesn’t have any other issues, but how would that person persuade the adolescent to not do drugs. It was agreed upon that the adolescent would put up the fight of “But you do it and nothing bad happened to you.” It is how the person acts after that is what matters. It seemed as though the only solution to this situation would be to use a scare tactic on the adolescent. To tell them all of the things that could go wrong and hope that will convince them not to do drugs. It was talked about how if the adolescent were to use drugs any way the parents would have the right to punish them, but the teachers would only be able to say not to do it. Another topic
