Review Of The Book 'The Giver' By Lois Lowry

How would you like to live in a community with no sun, no color and not even any love? In the book The Giver by Lois Lowry, Jonas seems like an ordinary boy, but is he? Jonas finds out he has been selected for the most important job in the community, the receiver of memories. He experiences many different memories and comes to the realization that the community is missing out on the countless things that make life amazing. He decides to go against the community and set out to release the memories to the people, bringing little Gabe with him. No matter what, it is important to never give up and fight for what is right. In this book, the Giver (the old receiver of memory, the one that is passing memories down to Jonas) gives jonas his personal favorite memory, the memory of love. On page 125, Jonas tells the Giver about how he liked the feeling of love but at the same time he feels a bit selfish because he not only took this memory from the giver, but he has to keep it from the community. All of the twelves were outside and started to play an old time game with fake guns and “pssheeew” sounds. Jonas tried to join in but after receiving the memory of war this game seemed too real. Jonas backed away from the game confusing the others, he couldn’t handle it. The memory was just too strong. He shook, trying not to cry. Jonas knew more than the rest of them. He knew that they too needed to understand all of the past memories, good and bad. This shows how important it is to never give up and to fight for what is right because although the memory is terrible the community needs to know about the many things that Jonas has to keep from
