Review Of Ted Talk Video 'Why You Think You' Re Right

I wasn’t able to attend a community event so I watched a Ted Talk video. I chose to watch a discussion of “Why you think you’re right--even if you’re wrong”. The title of the video really intrigued me so I thought it would be a good topic to listen to. The speaker is Julia Galef and she made many valid points throughout the video justifying the statement of “why you think you’re right even if you’re wrong”. This topic has a lot to do with one’s mindset which had a connection to what we are learning in this class. The idea of success is one’s mindset and shows how goal oriented or the perseverance a person may be to achieve that goal. The soldier’s mindset is to defend their own regardless of what might be happening. During a battle the soldier’s adrenaline is increased which also increases their reflexes. If something were to come at them they will defend and that is the soldier’s mindset. Now for the scout, they are to observe the whole plain view and to understand. They aren’t to be bias and see what’s going on, the good and the bad. They play an essential role in the army and she shows how the two mindsets differ. Galef then speaks on the “biggest political scandal” in france during the late 1800’s. A soldier during that time had sent germany secrets and quickly they turned to a man, Alfred Dreyfus. They compared Dreyfus’ writing with the original letter and concluded that it was his handwriting so they sentenced him to life in prison.
