One difference is the advertisement, a lot of the posters for minstrelsy had very pernicious pictures depicting ignorant African Americans for entertainment. Which during the time it wasn’t viewed so much as racial, but comical. In hip-hop there’s more freedom of expression and power in what is being said. So the advertisement for any hip hop artist now focuses on more of the positive change, that they can influence. One of the similarities of minstrelsy and hip hop is the marginalized attitudes that it influenced. Regardless of the attitudes positive outlook, or negative a certain opinion was made on each subject. Minstrelsy started out as a form of entertainment, which quickly turned into a lucrative business. Leading people to have mixed feelings as the world evolved so did the attitudes towards it. Racially it was oppressing to African American people to be represented, an imitated in the image of what the world thought they were. In the twentieth and early twenty-first century there has been so much progress from the early minstrelsy days to now. Although racial politics is still a very sensitive subject, exceptions come in the form of the performing arts such as music, acting, art, or dancing. In a world that seems to be only represented by false media, biased opinions, one sided stories, many differences, or indifferences. There is hope, understanding, facts, education, and plenty of people willing to push for change. One demographic of people that go against the grain of societies views, that marginalization is the change. Relating to a person shouldn’t be viewed as racially appropriated.
