What intrigued me thus far about Midwinterblood by Marcus Sedwick is the characters Eric and Merle. When Eric first sees Merle he feels he has known her forever. "He did not believe in love at first sight. He thinks he may do so now." (Pg.7) As the story progresses Merle is nothing but kind and caring towards Eric. He tries to spend as much time with Merle as he can. At one point they go swimming together and seem to lose track of time in doing so. Although recently in the story Merle has been acting strange, Eric seems to not notice. At the end of part one Tor is going to kill Eric. As Eric is looking at his last few minutes of living he sees Merle. She leans close to him and whispers "I followed you." At this point Eric ends up dying and
