My Life: Lightning Strikes

Lightning Strikes I view life like a rollercoaster ride. There can be so much ups, downs, and unexpected turns. Each movement is a change in life. Sometimes change is good, but then it can be bad. Obviously, I would prefer just pure goodness and happiness in life, but that was not the story of my life. If that was the story, then I would not be the person who I am today. Past events shape everyone’s lives, including mine. Lightning did strike in my life, when my dad had a stroke. I can remember that day so clearly, as if it just happened. All the thoughts, visions, and emotions of that one day still haunts me from time to time ever since. Everything happened so quick. Too quickly to process everything that it was a challenge. I had to become the leader of my family. I cannot rely on my parents anymore, especially my dad. My mom was not the same person anymore. Her mood swings were very frustrating to deal with. Dad was completely paralyzed on his right side, and he had lost all of his speech. I had to worry about school, my sister, selling the restaurant, and how to live the new life. This change has made me a stronger person, physically and mentally. After a whole lot of therapy, my dad started gaining some movements back. He can now walk again, and his speech has improved, compared to when he was completely incontinent and unable to move on his own. It was a drastic change within the first 6 months of recovery. Change can be hard to accept sometimes, but once I accepted the facts about my dad’s new life, I am happier. He is still the man that took care of me, and now its my turn to repay the favor. Unlike a rollercoaster ride, life is not always fun, and it is a much longer journey for us to

After reading The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, I realized how our lives are both similar and completely different. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that someone who is fairly famous and someone who has no significance in this world can be alike in many ways. Having read this book a few years back, it was actually helpful to me. It may have been helpful in the most indirect way possible, but helpful nonetheless. The Glass Castle had a small part in helping me through my problems with depression and anxiety.…

For the family interview, I decided to interview my mother who I find to be the most important key member of my family. I have spent the most time with her throughout my life and feel the most comfortable around her, so she was the best person to interview. While I was born here in the United States, my mom was born and raised in El Salvador so majority of her answers to the questions I asked had to do with her life there. Her first memory was of her first day of kindergarten, when she was around four years old. She remembers feeling small and just watching all the other students play as she kept to herself.…
