He depicts what those look like by giving examples through different famous evangelist, poets, and musicians. These days many see college merely has a gateway they must pass through to get to “life” and to get a “real job”. Few recognize though that despite having required classes or not being able to begin their career of choice they can still glorify God through their words and actions. This is what Leland Ryken attempts to portray in the chapter of his book titled The Students Calling. He calls his readers to look beyond themselves and to live their lives for God no matter trifling it may seem.
