In relation to the film, Jayson Beaster-Jones’ presentation "Music and Value: Participatory Performances" discussed how music brings, and unites people together. Including, “Baby Driver” is similar to Michael Bull’s article "The Audio-Visual iPod" that discusses how how aesthetics of urban life is ignored through the help of music, and how the iPod has provided a more accessible way to listen to it. Music in the article is defined as a way people become invisible, and can feel joy during their routine. Therefore, music allows individuals to escape, and feel according to the music they are listening to. Continuing, the main idea”Baby Driver” points out how music unites people together in relation to joy, and romance. For example, in the film the song “Easy” by Sky Ferreira reminds Baby, the main character, of his mother, and how they shared a bond over music because he loved to see her to sing. Then, the song “B-A-B-Y” by Carla Thomas is introduced when Baby encounters Debara, Baby’s love interests, and how he develops feelings for her. Also, throughout the film the audience can see how Baby uses the different iPods in his possession to determine in which mood he will be in. Music and society have a large impact on each other, and how they shape the way people view and act in the world. There are four themes that identify and characterize how music has evolved over the past one hundred years. These themes also show how music affects and expresses the culture that not only we live in today, but also how we have changed in our views on numerous aspects of today’s society. The four themes that are explored directly with a specific artist and, or, band are how they impact society, politics, and several cultural issues that have stood the test of time and the way race, class, and gender are expressed in music. The development of the music industry and the technology used in it are widely affected by the change in music over decades, but also by outstanding individuals during their careers, which span over a variable amount of time.…

It's a crime saga, an action movie, through music and tone we have a hipster-endorsed alternative to the various cinematic universes we have to sort through, and it's a love story. Because as quiet and reserved as Baby can be, he is wrestling with a lot behind those sunglasses, and eventually tattoos his heart squarely upon his sleeve. Wright's film is populated with a near-constant mix of old-school R&B, spirited British punk, and a mixtape full of obscure hip-hop and deep album cuts that, at times, are syncopated to the visuals and scenes they songs are featured in. In other moments, the lyrics and beat are cleverly woven into the action depicted on screen. From an aural standpoint, Baby Driver is a joy to "hear" - the music, the sound design, and the overall atmosphere Wright creates, a liberating, even breathtaking experience in certain…

Whether that be sex, race, love, money, or work, all artists have been singing and writing about the same themes since music itself was created. One of the most prominent and controversial issues addressed was politics and race sung through protest songs.…

At the suggestion of Dan Cohen, social worker, nursing home volunteer and non-profit organizer of Music & Memory, the film’s director followed him for a day and what he discovered that day of the extent of influence that music had on these individuals, he decided to continue to follow Cohen for three years to document the phenomenal effects that this type of therapy. Lou Rawls, an American singer, once acknowledged music as the “greatest [form of] communication in the world” (“Brainy Quote,” n.d., para.14). Music is a way for people to express themselves and their feelings comfortably without being ashamed or embarrassed. In the early days of May, I stumbled upon the trailer for a movie called Baby Driver. Suffice to say, I was underwhelmed despite an all-star cast such as Jamie Foxx, Jon Ham, and Kevin Spacey. Only a few weeks later did the Rotten Tomato score come out, and Baby Driver, directed by Edgar Wright reached an impossible score of 100%. Right then and there I decided to give Baby Driver a chance and I was not disappointed. Baby Driver follows the life of a young man named Baby (Ansel Elgort (?),) whose job is to drive getaway cars in bank heists, lucky for Baby…

In the real world, everyone is affected by music that they listen to or create themselves, but it is truly underestimated. People have the distinguished ability to express their individuality through the varying types of music in the world and how they react to it. Being a musician can challenge someone’s mental and physical abilities and, if they accept the challenge, can make them more intelligent and capable members of society.
