This action describes Charles to be a thorough and thoughtful person. He is listing all the benefits and downfalls of marriage so that he can make sure he is making the right decision for himself. Based on some of the things he listed as downfalls of marriage, Darwin could also be seen as selfish, since he didn’t want his wife to hold him back from science. Charles’ father didn’t allow his children to have much freedom of thought, except for the area of religion. Charles Darwin’s book Origin of Species was published fifteen years after Vestiges of Natural History of Creation. Charles received both good and bad feedback after publishing his book. It seemed like the audience of his book was made up of an equal ratio of people that either believed in God or didn’t. Mentioning God is his book may have appealed more to those who did believe in God, giving him less negative feedback, making it more successful. I think there are pros and cons about Charles being buried in Westminister Abbey. It is a suitable burial for him because he is so well known, like the other people buried there. Because of this, this church has become a popular site just to visit the graves of these people. On the other hand, I think it would’ve been nice to stay with a traditional burial, and have him buried with his children.
