Studies have also shown that Caldwell County’s crime rates have slightly increased in comparison to previous years(Lucas). The number of violent crimes for Caldwell County has dropped, but unfortunately the number of property crimes increased from 3,595 to 3,612. Sheriff Alan Jones said that “We feel that we are working hard to protect our citizens and providing a safe place for people to live in”(qtd in Lucas). The overall program objective was to provide insights into the impact of crimes that are of concern to law enforcement and the general public. Further, NCVS was thought to be more detail because it was focused on the victim; additionally, it enabled measurement of the extent to which an individual or household was victimized by a selected crime. More importantly, it provided information regarding the dark figures (Mosher et al.).
