One way the story was inspirational was she stood her ground while being hurt physically and mentally. While she was being abused, she drowned herself in school and work to get away from her miserable life. Day after day, she would have the anxiety of not knowing what she would get in trouble for the days ahead of her. Eventually, she put her mind to the test and competed in a playwriting competition. In fact, by the end of the novel, she became very tough emotionally and physically. When she finally realized she was stronger than she thought, she said, “I am no longer a girl, but a warrior.”(pg. 53) This meant that she was not just an ordinary girl that goes to her school, but a fierce “warrior”. She also compared herself to Mulan saying, “I am a female warrior, like Mulan.”(pg. 53) Saying you are like Mulan is a somewhat big statement, but her characteristics fit this brave and courageous warrior named Mulan. Comparing the two, both were brave and daring but still obedient.
