Personal Narrative: Reframing My Mind For Break

Reframing my Mind for Break Going home for break is one of the most nerve wrecking things for me. I know I 'm going to be around the same people who cause me to slip up. I don 't really have a choice in the matter they 're my co workers, and I need to work when I am home. I will also be able to be around all of my really solid Christian friends who I know have my back. This month I am choosing to; have a joyful attitude, not fixate on the negative situations, and trust that God has everything planned for a reason. Choosing your attitude determines how the whole day goes. If I wake up and dread the fact that I have to go to work, I 'm going to have a slump attitude at work and not have a chance to be a light to my coworkers. In the book In a Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day Mark talks about how joy is mind over matter. Mark uses a quote from Man 's Searching for Meaning "Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms—to choose one 's attitude in any given set of circumstances." I really think this is true, I also think it goes hand in hand with the fact that how you feel is a result of what you chose to focus on. In In a Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day Mark talks about how one of the purist forms of worship is pursuing God, even when you don 't feel like it. It really proves that your worship is not just circumstantial. This Christmas break I 'm going to work on focusing not on the bad situation, but onto what is right with God. I 'm going to focus on the things he 's wanting me to learn from the situations, and how he wants me to grow and learn from them. I want to focus less on the bad and more on the good I can get out of the situation. This month I just want God to show me how to find the good in all my situations and how I can use them to be a light for the advancement of his

As far as time I concerned I have decided to get rid of my Netflix account so that my time wouldn’t be wasted, but rather will be used for something godly. As I do my best to save money for a new car, I am reminded that it is important for me to give a tithe back to God. If I need a new car bad enough, God will provide a way. The study of stewardship is also a great reminder to hold onto things loosely. If someone needs to borrow your car, let them borrow it.…

I would like to serve as an Alternative Break Scholar because of the impact of my first Alternative Spring Break trip as well as, the impression that my former trip leaders left on me. During my first Alternative Break that was centered around systematic racism with a focus on gentrification and food insecurity I fell in love with the different types of services that my group and I participated in. The specific activity that I participated in was the act of helping to diminish the effects of food insecurity by packing boxes of food to disperse to the populations of people without the access or opportunity to purchase food items. While doing this service, I learned the importance of giving back and being grateful, many of the workers at the…

I have learned more about God in the past month than I have learned my whole life. It is no mistake that I felt a feeling of warmth when I first entered the campus. There was something different about it, I now realize that it is the presence of the Lord. Just as God called me to Crown, He also has called me to teaching. I feel that it is my responsibility to educate the next generation and to show them the beauty of the Lord.…

After coming back home from a winter retreat, I concluded that I need to talk to pastor to get baptized, and I did on April 23, 2017. Shortly thereafter, I went on a mission trip to Washington, D.C., where I really got to see God’s works at hand. My mission group and I work woke up one morning to a beautiful sunrise, and magnificent weather. Despite the fact we had to get up at five in the morning, I was eager to see what the day entailed.…

The overall premise of Wheeler and Whaley’s The Great Commission to Worship is that worship and evangelism are not to be isolated from each other. Worship and evangelism go together and they impact how the believer is to live out the commandment of the Great Commission. Wheeler and Whaley make the assertion that evangelism and worship have been misunderstood, misinterpreted, and misapplied, and offer suggestions to fix this problem. The ultimate purpose of the Christian, according to Wheeler and Whaley, is to glorify God in all that he or she does.…
